Manitoba is widely known for it’s extreme climate. Another thing known locally is that we have extreme soils that almost never stop moving, whether heaving in with winter frost or shrinking with dry summers. The result for many home owners is expensive and extensive foundation repairs.
Until recently options have been limited to underpinning with poured in place concrete piles. Concrete piles however are not always effective and they are quite costly and good foundation repair contractors are hard to find in and around Winnipeg.
Now there is a cleaner, more affordable and effective solution for repairing and leveling your home’s failed foundation – underpinning using heavy duty helical screw piles.
With as little as 2′-6″ of earth dug out along your foundation, screw piles can be installed with great precision alongside the foundation wall.
During installation a well outfitted screw pile installation company will monitor the resistance during installation against engineered capacities chart to ensure that each of the screw piles being installed will carry the capacity required.
Unique heavy steel brackets are installed under and alongside your foundation wall to secure the screw piles firmly to you home. These unique brackets are designed to allow for a hydraulic jack which can be used to effectively and safely lift and level your home.
Here are some pictures of a foundation repaired, lifted and leveled using helical screw piles. The footing is first removed so the screw pile can be installed next to the home’s foundation wall, then the brackets are installed with hydraulic jacks being used to lift and level the foundation and finally the jacks are removed the screw pile along with the brackets remain to provide permanent support.
