Previously you could simply take the area of your deck, multiply it by 50lbs/ft2 and then divide it by the total number of support points to get your loading for permits. This is a quick and easy way to do load calculations but you only are getting the average loading.

The City of Winnipeg has recognized that, pile specific load calculations are much better and have made it a requirement in their Deck building brochure which you can access here –
